View Full Version : Would you vote for a woman president?

On another forum I frequent, there's a thread/poll with a simple yes/no question...."Would you vote for Hillary Clinton". The thread is overwhelemed with disturbing replies such as "I would never vote for a woman" "women belong in the kitchen" "a woman can't handle running the country" and, well, you get the idea. I'm pretty much the only one who would not only vote for a woman, but would specifically vote for her.

I want to see if I'm the crazy one for thinking a woman can run a country just as well as a man, or if I'm normal and the forum is filled with a bunch of neanderthal, neo-con, male chauvanist assholes. I'm going for the latter, because seeing as how women have sucessfully ran countries in the past, it's obvious that you don't need a dick to be a leader. Seeing that this forum is international in membership, Hillary Clinton may not apply to all of you, so the question is would you vote for a woman (not a specific person, just a human being without a penis) for president/prime minister/whatever.

I most certainly would vote for a woman to be president. There is no reason why a woman can't run this country of ours. I absolutely want to throw up at the fact that there are still men (maybe some women?) out there that believe a woman should be in the kitchen. That's bullshit. For all you know, a woman in the presidency might better things for our nation. Only way to know that is if it happens and I'm pretty sure it will.

Edit: and of course I wouldn't just vote for a woman just because she is a woman. I would want to know what she stands for and so on...

Sadly, I wouldn't be so sure about that if the forum where those comments came from are any indication of the general beliefs of the US....and I have a feeling they might be.

If George Bush can totally screw up as a president and make a person REGRET HIS VOTE for him, then I'm sure a more intelligent and powerful woman with respectable political beliefs can rule the country.

So far all men presidents have done is screw up from time to time, maybe its time for a female president.

My only worry is her hate against videogames. That's why you should be happy Liebermann isn't vice president.

Eh...true, but she can't ban them. And I'm old enough to buy them. I don't agree with her though

That's a "fair and balanced" poll.

Of course I would. I'd say most women have better reasoning skills than men, who tend to get sidetracked by power, greed, and saving face instead of telling the truth.

Thinking it's possible for someone to "ban video games" is ridiculous. Be real. Women are most likely to uphold rights such as freedom of speech, ever since, you know, only being granted rights like that just decades ago.

That being said, is it likely to happen soon? Maybe in 30 years. The Conservative Right has too much of a grip on the States nowadays.

Well, I'm in Canada so I couldn't but the principle still applies. I would not vote for her BECAUSE she was a woman, but I wouldn't hold it against her either.

I think what you said and what you intended are two seperate thigns there.

Perhaps "I would not base my vote on whether she was a woman or not."

Yeah you definitely worded that wrong esaul .

As for my whole ban videogames arguement..I'm sure its possible to pass legistration banning violent videogames. It already happened in one state.

The poll isn't "Would you vote for [insert name here]", it's would you vote for a woman if you agreed with their political beliefs and whatnot.

There's only one right answer in a thread like this. That's why I'm not really going into any details. If you say no, then you're a sexist.

Well, if Bush can be president without being kicked off for stupidy [which I'm surprised hasn't happened yet], then I'd be happy to vote for a woman, providing she offered something good for the country.

I'd vote for a woman to become President of the United States. So long as she was more than capable of running the country successfully, she'd have my vote.

Seeing as I'm not a Democrat nor a Republican, party doesn't matter to me, either. It's the issues that appeal most to me, and the candidates stance on those issues.

haha, I love those choices, Todd!

There is no doubt in my mind that I would vote for a woman president.

I look forward to the day when there is the choice.

The thing is that it's all well and good a women rising to the ranks of president but thats what England thought when we brought in Margeret Thatcher and dear god she pissed pretty much 3 quarters of the country off.

Now I'm not saying there should be no women president, in fact I think it would be quite good for America, however I'm with Casey that if I were living in the US I wouldn't even dream of voting for Hilary Clinton or Condoliza Rice.

It shoudnt be anything about being a "woman", everyone saying that is sexist anyway, it should be about the best candidate for the country, not what sex they are

I would vote for a woman. Gender doesn't matter, I'd strictly base my opinion on their politics, not whether they have a penis or not.

I would certainly vote for a female president, in fact if Hillary gets the democratic nomination, I'm proud to say that in my first election I can participate in, she'll have my vote. Not just because she's a woman, but because I feel she's highly qualified and capable of doing a good job running the country. If another democratic candidate comes up that seems better, I'll vote for them instead.

But anyway, there have been quite a few times in history when society made changes from a patriarchal to matriarchal society, and vice-versa. There's no reason for it not to happen again.

I have changed my mind. If Mary Carey decides to run for election in 2008, I will vote for her.

Because, let's face it, a pornstar's campaign would be highly entertaining (and arousing?).

True, but whether you think of it or not, there are different connontations to each gender...it's something that you can't erase and they will be there for the rest of our lives.

I know that i'd like to think that it wouldn't matter, but there is just about no place in this world where there is no judgement.

Being a woman in a position of power is a HUGE deal.

I mean, just look at the State's history. There are hardly any women.

If you read my entire post up there I thought it made sense. Just picking out that one part though does make it seem poorly worded.

I would vote for a woman president if I felt they were qualified for the job. I wouldn't vote for a woman president just because she's a woman. She has to be qualified.

Unfortunately, the only women who would have any success in running for president are those already in Congress.

But I don't think it should matter if a person is a woman or a man, black or white, rich or poor, tall or short, and so on, like Rosanna said.

Darcy

I would vote for anyone smart enough for the job. It's a matter of brains, not a matter of gender. I just want someone who isn't going to fuck up the job.

That would be pretty neat though, if we did get a female president. I think it's going to take awhile, though. I doubt that Hilary Clinton has a chance and I haven't heard about any other women who are ready to go for it.

So, you'd vote for her just because she was a woman? Just because she might be better than any President this nation has had?

You need to look at the qualities. It doesn't matter what gender a person is to qualify as a presidential candidate, not to mention race, age, and so on. It's all about qualities, what topics and subjects the candidate is standing with and what topics the candidate is against. What matters is what the candidate wants to do for the country, and whether he/she has done anything prior to campaigning to do something about it.

Now you're just changing your mind. Of course we wouldn't know her qualities until she makes herself known. We don't know any candidates qualities (unless they're popular in Congress) until they step up. You said in your last post that any woman may be better than all of the presidents we've had. So, now you're just saying that it could be any woman, but no matter which woman it is, she'll be better than the rest of the candidates.

I'll never vote for a woman to be president because chances are she won't be one of those cool women out there and once she becomes president she'll ban everything like violent video games, explicit CDs....etc it would be a disaster, fuck that. it would be Tipper Gore all over again except worse...

Eh...no. A woman president won't necessarily do that. It's against the constitution.

Isn't it? Like, Explicit CD's, free speech and all?

yeah but that didn't stop Tipper Gore from putting explicit stickers on CDs. what would stop any other woman from making it so you could only buy Grand Theft Auto at certain adult stores because it's "violent" if that happened sales would go way down because kids wouldn't be able to play the game.

I'm indifferent about it. But possibly, more in support of having a woman in office for the first time.
There is alot of speculation that Hilary Clinton and Condoleeza Rice will be the two presidential candidates in 2008.

But two women? Running for president? Now?

Never.
