As many of you know, this storm is following a similar path to Katrina, and even a small brush to New Orleans can put the city underwater again. If many of you don't know by now, the storm has doubled the windspeed since yesterday and as of 10 AM, it is a category 4 storm with weeds in upwards of 140 MPH, (225 kph for those canadians like me). It looks as if the storm will strike Texas. I think this will be a bigger storm than Katrina in my opinion, with winds almost pushing 200 by tomorrow. Any of you watching any of this and what are your opinions. It may not be serious now, but in 3 days, it'll be another major killer.
Its gonna get critical , i live in houston , so i need to evacuate pretty soon.

Good Luck Guys! I hope you all are safe and sound with minimal proporty damage.
....The end of the world is coming
*sigh* there goes gas prices. :( (haha but we already get it cheaper than most other people....still) I filed up my tank yesterday, even though i didn't really have the money to, because I knew it was going to shoot way up.
What are these hurricains doing to our economy?

Gas is a $1.15 here now. When Katrina hit, it shot up to $1.48. (These are Canadian prices mind you.)
What the price of gas will be after Rita is beyond me, but I'm betting it will pass the $1.50 level here.
As for this Hurricane, isn't Rita like the 17th one so far this year?
Meh, I'm not going to believe a thing about gas prices until I see it actually happen. After Katrina, everyone was like "OH NOES!!!!1111ONES GAS PRICES ARE GONNA REACH 5 BUCKS A GALLON!!!! MY SUV USES 4 GALLONS FOR EVERY INCH IT MOVES WHAT WILL I DO?????////" and I never saw gas go above $3.29. So yeah, it might be a good idea to fill up now, but don't anticipate very expensive gas.

lol
yeah, but it reached $3.90/gal here. We actually have some of the highest gas prices in the country....it really is a drag. I need a more fuel efficient car, but i don't have the money to get anything else. :(
But, becuase there is going to be even more damage before the past damage has a chance to be fixed.
Everyone should fill up now.

Haha, I live in Reno, NV. We have some of the highest gas prices in the country and there is no reason. The only places higher are some places in CA.

I live in northwest Louisiana. My dad said that we are gonna get some hell out of Rita. The highest I've seen gas in the whole Katrina thing is $2.69. So, I'm glad i don't drive......yet. :wth: I'd hate to see what the prices are going to be in 2 years.
im guessing prices will be around $5 once this is over.
I hope anyone in Texas learned from Katrina is starting to evacute before they get hit. Doesn't seem we can handle another major hurricane disaster right now.
Gas prices are expected to go up to $10 this time, everyone fill up every single can you can get your hands on, now!

If it's a category 5, it will die down soon. Category 5's don't usually last very long because they are moving SO fast, they start to tear themselves apart from the inside, bringing them down to a 2 or 3. It's a good thing that it hit 5 this early.

Hm, what's a bigger disaster? The hurricane or the wall designed to protect us from it falling on us?

I must say, that's quite possibly the dumbest idea I've ever read.

UPDATE
Hurricane Rita is now the third biggest storm on record, and Katrina isnt even 1st or second. The storm has sustained winds of 175 MPH (280 km/h) and has been a category 5 storm since about 4 this afternoon. I recommend you all go to www.cnn.com and read up on this all. But ya, sorry Texas, you guys are majorly fucked. It will be worse than Katrina.

It's going to die out in a day. That storm is just going to tear itself apart, when it hits mainland it'll be down to a 2 or 3.
I am really impressed with society and how they are handling things. THey are really prepared. They have rescue people standing by and they have evacuating over 1,000,000 people from Houston already.

Possibly. But probably not. You do realize that the gulf of Mexico is hot water, and that it will likely stay around the same strength when it hits? And I live in the Dallas area, and by the time it gets here it's supposed to be a category one (at least, as of this morning... I understand it's changed a little bit, so that may be different now).
linkinpark4life_69: No, it will not be worse than Katrina. The local governments already ordered mandatory evacuations and provided transportation for those without it. The federal government also is acting much swifter than with Katrina (obviously, as Mark said). Not to mention the fact that we're not 20 feet below sea level to begin with -- that may help a tad.

ughh .. I just got back from 14 hours of a useless trip halfway across the county. The hurricane turned from a cat 5 to a 2 in less than 2 days.A mild breeze and a few hours of rainfall. It was sooo worth the trip. It sucks to be galveston though , i wonder whats the situation there now.
