Today four years ago it all started, life seemed much more normal then, I don't know if we'll ever have that security back again.
Anyways where was everyone when they found out? And what songs bring back memories of it? I was a junior in high school in Spanish class waiting for the bell to ring so I could go to lunch. I remember not being overly shocked because I followed world events at the time and knew we weren't invisible.
Songs:
"Outside" by Staind
"Illume (9-11)" by Fleetwood Mac
"Let's Roll" by Neil Young

I was coming in from playing football (or soccer  ) when I found out. It was a really shitty day from what I remember aswell, like really dull and cloudy. I remember coming home that night and watching it on the TV and then going out with some mates and talking about it. Everyone thought it was gonna be the start of WWIII... Heh, I guess the 'war on terror' is WWIII...
The only songs that really remind me of it are the obvious ones that were written about it. Like Believe by Yellowcard.

Yeah, it may seem harsh what I'm gonna say now. But you can't make a new thread every year about 11 September. I do have respect for the people who died and the people around it. But you have to let it go one time, right?
But yeah. I just came home and my mom just grabbed me and put me on the couch in front of the tv.

really. i think people spend alot of time dwelling in the past..what apparently could've happened if so and so did this, what should of happened if bush had done blah blah..
i was in third grade. none of the teachers told us shit ("something bad happened at the white house today.."), but when i got home, my mom told me and i watched fox for about two hours. it didn't hit me until later how much damage and how many lives were ruined.
i can't remember much about everything before 9/11. which is sad.

Im on the other side of the world, so it was like midnight and mum and myself were watching a show when all of a sudden the screen went black and then we saw a plane crash into the twin towers....I was like WTF??? I spent 6 hours until 6am watching the news and shit....all I could do was sit there and think what the fuck are we doing to ourselfs?
That day at school was ridiculous....every class I had, the doors were locked and the blinds pulled down...I mean Im on the other side of the world... its not like they were going to come over and terroise us like 12 hours after the towers....crazy teachers :wth:
I remember the day well. It was my 2nd week in secondary school and after playing football (Or Soccer as Dave pointed out) on my much break we all went back into class and I had RE. There was an announcement that there was an emergancy assembly and that everyone must report to the main hall. In the hall they hooked a TV up to a projector on a big white screen and the News was on and the first footage of the planes crashing into the towers was on. Alot of people including teachers were crying. I was just praying that they wern't gonna attack London aswell, I remember worrying like fuck about a world war 3. On the day it was very cloudy and drizzely,I remember it like it was yesterday.

Me too.
It was a horrible event, I sympathize with all the families of the lost ones and have alot of respect for those who died but I don't know...I suck with words so, yeah, what Marj said.
USAF.07, I don't see that kind of security anytime soon because the president loves fear.

I knew this was coming. A thread about 9/11 on 9/11 :o . Okay, I don't want to sound heartless here, but come on, we seriously do not need a thread to remember what we was doing four years ago and what songs remind us of that day. Yes, it was an important day and I feel for the people who died and the families surrounding them but a thread about the same thing every year is pointless. Marj is right, we should move on.
I can't help but see this thread being turned into a debate sometime soon too.

I was only in the 5th grade, and they did let us watch the news. I remember I was in P.E, then we all went back to our classrooms and we were watching it. I don't think I really knew what was going on, I mean I was only 10 or 11. No songs really remind me of that time.

Agreed.
We all know what happened 4 years ago.
But now there are other things on our minds.
I wonder if people hit by Katrina suddenly stopped to think about where they were 4 years to the day.

Okay then let's just forget about it. Kind of a downer too I agree, certainly not worthy of the fine topics usually posted here like "Boy gets dumped by cyber girlfriend" or "Michael Moore writes letter to Bush". B)
Apathy...just as prevelant today as it was before 9/11. Half of you don't even know what happens outside your own little world. As people always prove to me over and over again, they only care when it happens to them.

WTF, man?
We don't live in our own little stuck-up worlds.
We were all involved in 9/11.
My GODMOTHER, for example, was supposed to be on the plane that crashed in Sumerset.
I know people in New York. I was scared as shit.
But there are more important things right now. I'd rather dwell on the crisis at hand instead of on the crisis 4 years ago, thank you.
Rather than dwell on something that changed everybody's lives years ago, I think I'll continue donating money to those hit by Katrina and continue volunteering at the stadiums nearby where people are being temporarily housed.

Understood, however can't there be seperate discussions? 9/11 may be way back in your mind but some don't see it that way. Sorry if you interpreted my words as saying you were apathetic overall, but Americans tend to be that way. No one cared about terrorism before until it hit us in our own back yard, and MANY had no idea why. It's sad how isolated we are, not just in how we view things, but how we vote and follow the important issues. Those that aren't active in making a difference have no right to complain.
Regardless if you don't appreciate Sep 11th being brought up anymore then you don't have to click on it and let those that want to talk about it talk about it. It's a perferctly decent thread, I was just trying to get some discussion in about it in honor of those who died that day and to remind people that it could happen again.
Ronin

its very possible that it could happen again, but it may not be in best interest to say that on 9/11. too many people would be upset
I remember. I was in fourth grade, and we spent half the day just watching the news.
And these guys are right. We've done this every year since it happened. It's time for us, including we Americans, to move on.
You forgot Believe by Yellowcard, bee-tee-double-you.
I was in 5th grade and starting my Social Studies class. Our school wouldn't let anyone watch TV or listen to the radio but teachers kept comeing in and saying stuff. I went home and watched tv for about 3 hours after that. I just remember really well that parents were absolutly panicing and going and getting their kids and not letting them come to school. It was pure chaos. Also soon after the attacks there was a big deal about the Dupont Chemical plant that's about an hour from my house. Accourding to the news if the wind was blowing right and they bombed the plant then it could really interfear with my town. I think that everyone in Charleston went on a vacation that week.

I was already home from school and was on the computer, then a friend was outside screaming that I should turn the TV on and put it on the news. I was pretty shocked.
I just have to say this but, America knew for a good year this was going to happen and they didnt do anything about it. The FBI caught a terrorist, but the higher chiefs said that they couldnt search through his PC. When 9/11 was over they had permission to look in it, and there were alot of documents about the WTC and other stuff.

I suggest you change your sig. The first plane to hit the WTC was American Airlines Flight 11, n00b. There was no plane called Q33. Stupid internet rumor that's been around forever.
Anyway...4 years ago...heh. 4 years ago, our government staged the biggest conspiracy the world has ever seen.
Yes, I'm a bigtime conspiracy theorist.
Yeah, I remember it. I was in grade 6. First period or whatever, a bunch of people where talking about it. I hadn't a clue what was going on, as I don't watch the news usually. Then I got home, went downstairs as usual to my computer and I saw it on tv, CNN or whatever was on tv and it was just repeating and repeating. Horrible. I was just, shocked that this happened.
If it wasn't for this attack, then the world wouldn't be as it is right now. The US wouldn't be so tight with security right now if it wasn't for 9/11.
But this was 4 years ago, let's just move on, try to not focus on what happened, as that's history now. It's time to focus on the present; the hurricane disaster.
Oh and something random. There's a storm here, right? Lightning and stuff. Power surge happens, computer shuts down on me, I turn around, my alarm clock was still on [last power surge my computer stayed on, and my clock reset..oO] and the time is 9:11. Coincidence?

My alarm clock doesn't have a date function.
I remember where I was on 9/11. Skipping school because I was up late on the 10th for no real reason and pretended to be sick to get some extra sleep. And I could go on about the entire day, I remember it like it was yesterday. I know all the details down to what I ate for dinner that night. But, that's not the point of 9/11 anniversaries. In fact, there's not a huge point to them. 9/11 was sad and tragic, but I can almost guarantee you 3,000 people have died around the world since I started typing this post. Where's the day of rememberance for them? Where's the day of rememberance for the tens of thousands of civilians who have died in wars as a result of 9/11? The biggest attack on American soil is a tradgedy, and I'm not saying we should ignore it, but the deaths from the planes, WTC and the Pentagon are miniscule compared to the other non-attack related deaths that took place on 9/11, and there's no reason for people to keep getting upset, worried, and stressed over it.
Also, don't give me any "I had a friend who's mother's second cousin's father's uncle's friend's dog's previous owner was supposed to be on a plane but missed his flight so you shouldnt say that about 9/11" crap. My sister lived 2 blocks from the WTC at the time and was supposed to be in the WTC at the time of the attack but overslept instead. I bet myself and whoever said their godmother was supposed to be on the flight are the only 2 people here who actually came close to having their family affected by this.

I remember I was home sick from school, and I was online. (Big surprise eh?) Anyway I was online and my friend Nick (who lived down the street and was also home sick) said, "Turn on any channel right now, something big is happening." So I did and sure enough, I turn it on RIGHT as the second plane hit the towers. I remember getting so shocked I actually collapsed to the ground with my jaw hanging wide open. It was so scary.

That would be me.
My godmother and her company were down there on a business trip during that week, and that day they were supposed to head back to California.
For some reason or another, her boss wanted to stay, while my godmother wanted to go home so bad she seriously considered getting on the plane by herself.
We are severely thankful that she decided to stay.
EDIT: And so it is this boss's decision that explains why there were so few people on the Sumerset flight.

At the time, I was a freshman in high school on 9/11. I was in 1st period (English) when word spread around school about how a plane hit one of the towers. My english teacher went on teaching and didn't turn on the tv. Like, what the hell? Then I went to 2nd period (Biology) and my teacher had the tv on and we all watched the unfortunate events unfold before our eyes on CNN. I was horrified. 2nd period was cut short and everyone was told to meet in the gym. We then got an announcement saying school has been let out early because there had been a terrorist attack in New York. I left school around 11:00 a.m. and came home to watch the news. I just sat and watched not fully realizing that something like this was actually happening.

i was in grade 6... i'd just woke up and watched the news every morning, i thought it was all an accident. tower one collapsed and i was like wow, it didnt hit me until tower 7 collapsed that "oh shit this is bad". this might suond awful but i didnt really care... i didnt even know what terrorism was until that day. we got to school and i had art, i remember the teacher saying for us to have a minute silence... i thought only a handful of people died and it would be forgotten in a few days. didnt stop hearing about it for the next 12 months.
songs that remind me of it are... definately
Linkin Park - Under Attack (crawling)
I was in grade 12 and heard about it by some little kids in the bus and i remember what the hell are those little shits talking about. Then igot to school and watched coverage for the rest of the day.

Are you sure it wasn't a repeat? They repeated the darn thing thousands of times.

Even if it was a repeat it is still sickening and devastating to see it for the first time.

What the hell did you just say? Sorry, I don't know the language of people who are too lazy to type out whole words and complete sentences.
