There have been a number of explosions in London this morning on the under ground tubes and some buses.
One of the stories (http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/4659093.stm)
Yeah, it's on TV now. How can people do this? This world is fucked up...

7 blasts now. Blair says it is terrorist. Its all his fault, he said its barbaric. Is it not barbaric when him and Bush send our troops off to kill thousands in Iraq and Afghanistan?

I just heard it on the news when you posted this topic, I was shocked, still am.. I know this can happen everywhere and anytime but you never expect it to actually happen. This is goddamn useless.
I heard that the Israelian secret security informed London about the coming explosions just before it happened. Anyone know about this?

I heard this an hour or so ago. It's worrying.
the thing is it is so easy to do - there is very little in security on public transport.
london is an easy target for terrorists

Just after midday Tony Blair made a short statement. He called the incidents "barbaric" on a day when the G8 was meeting to solve issues such as poverty in Africa.
The Prime Minister said it was "reasonably clear" that the terrorist attacks were designed to coincide with the opening of the G8. He made clear his resolve that Britain would not give in to terrorism: "Whatever they do it is our determination that they will not succeed in destroying what we hold dear in this nation."
He said he would leave the G8 meeting and return to London.
The London Ambulance service has reported a tube train is stuck underground in the King's Cross area on which there are fatalities.

They cancelled the rest of school because of the explosions, all the London Underground is closed and buses are disrupted.20+ people confirmed dead more than a hundred injured.
This is fucked up but it was bound to happen with the G8 sumit happening,London getting the olympics etc. Percides we all knew it wasn't a quiestion of if it was a quiestion of when and today was the day.
I know that its fucked up that it happens in the middle east all the time but you get filled with several emotions when you hear its happened basicly down the road from where you live.
Those who bomb will pay for their sins.
What a way to start the 10 day countdown to my birthday.

there is probably some thruth behind what you are saying - however it would of been an impossible task to evacuate the whole of the london underground and get people off the buses.

I was deeply upset by the tragedy. And the fact that they assume this was against G8 upsets me even more.
Who in the right mind would bomb London seven times for the sake of showing hate against a few people? It's practically insane.

Why can't they just talk and negotiate instead of throwing bombs on innocent people to get what they want. They are such selfish pricks. I hope they die out of regret though I doubt it.

it makes me sick how a group of people with some bombs and some crazy ideas can cause so much destruction to innocent people for what? what point are they trying to make? i'm with leones. i hope they die out of regret.
Negociations won't solve anything.
All these terrorists want is death and disarray, panic and confusion. You can't negociate for that. Using bombs like this to strike fear in the hearts of millions is the only way to accomplish that goal.
Not to mention that the bombs were most likely planted to coincide with the G8 meetings in an effort to break up the meetings. Looks like Tony Blair is leaving the summit and going back to London. Goal accomplished once again.
My condolences to all the affected victims and their families. This is a terrible occurance.

Tony Blair is staying in Gleneagles for the G8 summit.
And yes you are right that there is no reasoning with terrorists however when has anyone tried?

There's no point to it. It'd go something like this;
"Hey, we'd like to kill a bunch of your citizens."
"No. What do you really want?"
"To kill a bunch of your citizens"
"Oh.....well, no."
And then they do it anyways.
I just read on CNN.com that Blair was returning to London. Link (http://edition.cnn.com/2005/WORLD/europe/07/07/london.timeline/index.html)

There is speculation that the attacks were by Al-Qaeda. Then again, if a woman gets pushed over in a parking lot, people suspect Bin Laden is behind it, so I would take this with a grain of salt.

I can't believe they claimed it was a power surge when the first one went off!
Update: Over 40 dead.
A previously unknown group, calling itself the Group of al-Qaeda of Jihad Organization in Europe laid claim to the blasts, posting a statement on an Islamist web site a few hours after the explosions. The claim could not be independently verified.
More fatalities were sure to follow -- emergency services personnel told CNN that a rescue operation at Kings Cross station had successfully evacuated all survivors, leaving dead below ground "in the double digits."
One worker said he had removed "several" bodies from the train and "at least 13" remained there. The fire brigade has now left the station, he said, and it was now a crime scene.
U.S. law enforcement sources said the British government has said at least 40 people are dead.
Three of the blasts took place in the city's subway system and one more hit a double-decker bus, all at the height of rush hour.
International SOS, an international medical emergency service, reported that the police had found explosive traces in at least one of four confirmed blast locations.
Hospital officials have reported at least 160 wounded. London transit officials shut down the entire Underground and stopped buses in the central city district.
"We are dealing with large numbers of casualties," he said, "and we believe a number of fatalities."
Blair, in Scotland where he is hosting the G8 summit, told reporters he would leave the summit for a "face to face" report in London and then return later in the evening.
"It's reasonably clear there have been a series of terrorist attacks in London," Blair said. "There are obviously casualties, both people that have died and peole that are seriously injured.
Blair said it was "also reasonably clear" that the attacks were timed to coincide with the opening of the summit.
"It's particularly barbaric that this has happened on a day when people are meeting to try to help the problems of proverty in Africa and the long-term problems with the environment," he said.
Just before leaving for London, Blair made a second statement, surrounded by the other leaders present at the conference.
"All of our countries have suffered from the impact of terrorism," he said. "Those responsible have no respect for human life. We are united in our resolve to confront and defeat this terrorism that is not an attack on one nation, but all nations and on civilized people everywhere."
President Bush was among the somber leaders who stood behind Blair as he spoke.
"We will not yield to these people, will not yield to the terrorists," he said in a short statement after Blair departed. "We will find them, we will bring them to justice, and at the same time we will spread an ideology of hope and compassion that will overwhelm their ideology of hate."
London Mayor Ken Livingstone said the blasts were "mass murder" carried out by terrorists bent on "indiscriminate ... slaughter."
Livingstone, in Singapore where he supported London's successful bid to host the 2012 Olympics, said: "I want to say one thing: This was not a terrorist attack against the mighty or the powerful, it is not aimed at presidents or prime ministers, it was aimed at ordinary working-class Londoners." (Full story)
The Web site claim of responsibility by al-Qaeda in Europe said the blasts were "in retalitation for the massacres Britain is committing in Iraq and Afghanistan."
"Here is Britain burning now out of fear and horror in its north, south east and west," the statement said, translated from Arabic by CNN. "We have often and repeatedly warned the British government and people." (Full story)
Despite calls from officials to stay home, Londoners were on the streets except in areas where they were barred by police.
Police cordoned off areas around six stations in and around the city's center and financial area and brought in sniffer dogs to check the areas.
Telephone traffic -- particularly by cell phone -- was nearly impossible. London's largest cellular provider, Vodaphone, said it had devoted much of its network to emergency services, causing the problems with subscribers.
London's police chief said the explosions, which began at about 8:50 a.m. (3:50 a.m. ET), certainly appeared coordinated.
One man, with blood streaming down the left side of his face from a wound on his temple, said he didn't "want to live through it again."
"I was in the front carriage and people were severely injured there," he said, dispassionately, adding that his train had been in the tunnel between Kings Cross and Russell Square. "I heard, but I don't know, that people were hurt worse further back. "Some people were very calm, others very panicky."
"There was a very loud bang, the lights went out, the carriage filled with smoke," he said. "We were all thrown forward."
Another man, clearly shaken by his experience, described being on a smoke-filled carriage on the same train, he and his fellow passengers afraid to try to leave the train.
"We were all trapped like sardines waiting to die," said Angelo Power. "I honestly thought I was going to die, as did everyone else."
A police spokesman urged Londoners to "stay where you are."
"There's no way to travel around London at the moment," he said.
"There is a London emergency plan," he said. "It has been put into effect. It is being coordinated by the Metropolitan Police, and that's about all I can say at the moment."
Scotland Yard sent out a notice saying that "public transport in London will be affected in the next few days."
Claire Burroughs, spokeswoman for St Mary's Hospital in central London, told CNN the hospital was on "major incident alert." Four patients were critically injured, eight were seriously injured and 14 others were being treated for minor injuries, she said.
"The types of injuries we are seeing include limb damage, burns, cuts, breaks, head injuries and chest problems due to smoke inhalation," Burroughs said.
London Hospital said it received 95 patients, most with minor injuries. Ten, however were listed in serious condition and seven in critical condition as well as "numerous with significant orthopedic injuries requiring immediate surgery."
Royal London Hospital, in east London near Aldgate station, said it had admitted 16 patients, 10 of them in critical condition. St. Bartholomew's hospital said it had treated and released 36 patients and had admitted two others.
CNN cameraman Oran O'Reilly said he has seen seven of the city's famed double-decker buses as well as police cars and ambulances arriving with casualties.
British Home Secretary Charles Clarke said the explosions took place between Russell Square and Kings Cross Underground; near the Moorgate, Aldgate and Liverpool Street stations Underground; and the Edgware Road station.
Police said a bomb was aboard one train at Edgware Road, but it exploded as another train was passing and hit that train as well.
The fourth explosion on a bus just outside Tavistock Hotel.
Jarvis Medhurst told CNN: "I was working at the Tavistock Hotel and a bus exploded literally 40 meters away from me. There was a massive explosion and a cloud of smoke, and then when the smoke stated to die down, you could see the wrecked bus, which was on fire.
"There were bodies everywhere. Heads and bits of bodies, heads and arms and legs all ripped away.
"There seemed to be kids lying around as well as adults. I'm just in shock, it's something I'll never forget."
London Metropolitan Police, British Transport Police and London's fire brigade are investigating, according to Scotland Yard.
O'Reilly, who was at Aldgate station, saw passengers coming out of it with signs of smoke inhalation -- black smudges around their mouths and noses.
"They're pushing people away from the tube (train) station," O'Reilly said. "Police are telling us to evacuate the street."
Also at Aldgate, CNN producer Roger Clark said he had seen people with blood running down their faces, with many others looking stunned.
An eyewitness who was on a train told Clark the car in front of him exploded and then the the train tunnel filed with smoke.

The problem with all of this is that we have nobody rallying behind the cause of fighting terrorism anymore. Everyone thinks that this effort by the big countries (America, Italy, Europe etc) is just a waste of time and money, and then lo and behold this happens.
When 9/11 went on, you couldn't go through 3 houses without an American Flag hanging out on each one. Now you'd be lucky to find 2 in a row. We need to be united and go against these people, but that'll never happen again and the terrorists know this. Because of the fact that this isn't only motivated by the G8 Summit but also because of Iraq, there's going to be an even bigger resentment towards America now, because we still have Iraq going on after all this time.
My point is, and I know this is going to have a lot of people disagreeing with me is that sure it's great we're worrying about poverty, but we have to stand together on the issue of terrorism too, because those bastards are the people who really have the money.
If we stand half and half or on the one side of things these suicide bombers or this reported "Al-Queda" organization is just going to keep getting away with attacks such as these.
The upsetting thing is that you know that with G8 only a little while away that this probably isn't the end of the terrorist attacks. America and these other targeted countries are gonna have to go on high alert because of that quote by Al-Queda is true, Italy and Denmark are going to be next.
God bless the families of the fallen people in this tragedy.

And you know what really pisses me off while we're on the topic of this? Only the news channels have this on!
America is supposed to be on "high alert" and yet how are they supposed to know this when channels like CBS, MTV, ESPN and ABC are still resuming with their regulary scheduled programming?
When stuff like this happens, these big channels have to put a pause to their boring soap operas or reality shows, and cut a live feed of what's currentely going on.
They need to drum this home instead of worrying about if so and so porked this guy on The Real World.
This is the real world right here, not that stupid reality show.

Exactly. Omar of LPA is a Muslim and he can tell you right now that his religion has no affiliation with the terrorist attacks whatsoever.
Muslims are peaceful, loving people and they would never support hate crimes such as these.
And testorz, I agree with everything you said. Just because someone isnt a threat to us doesn't mean we shouldn't try to stop it.
Although Hitler had the power to attack America, we also tried to kill him because of what he was doing to the Jews.
Yeah some people think we are idiotic to try and be the 'peacemakers', but really...had America not taken Saddam Hussein out of power and tried to rebuild Iraq, who would've?

You know, this whole thing makes me so goddamn mad. I dont get the point of terrorism and why people have to just kill people like this.
I mean Nikki's freinds Kyle and Gavin were in London. Gavin she has heard from but Kyle went out to get something and neither Gavin nor Nikki have heard from him yet to say he's alright.
And then Cassie has extended family in London.
You dont realize how close these things hit home until someone you know could be in danger. Like with 9/11 one of my friends was in New York at the time. I was terrified.

Who in the right mind would bomb London seven times for the sake of showing hate against a few people? It's practically insane.
Fanatics, I'm guessing. As sorry as I am, this kind of thing was happening in the far east daily because of us a few weeks ago, and for all I know (I stopped following the occupation) it could still be. George Galloway (leader of Respect, a socialist party) said that the allies should withdraw if this isn't to happen again. Even if he is a Saddam Hussein sympathiser, I agree.

Leonie, it's not the flag. It's a feeling of patriotism and a coming together. If the country can stand together it makes a force stronger than you could ever imagine. United we stand, divided we fall. Perhaps I'm just a dumb romantic, but I do believe that in unity there is strength.

To add something else, I'm not sure that the terrorists want to kill innocent people... I mean, think about it. They could have set the bombs off earlier when more people were going to and from work, or even worse, they could have taken advantage of the Live 8 concerts and gone all out in 8 different places if they wanted to kill lots of people. It think that they just want to cause mass panic and scare people to get their attention.

But surely 8 bombs in 8 different places around the world which are filled with people both famous and non-famous would be more devasting than say, 4 bombs in one city? It sounds like I'm being insensitive but it's true, isn't it?

That's what I was getting at. It's not about who believes what or who thinks Bush is the greatest, who hates him and who doesn't give a shit. We're all Americans and that should be enough to bring us together in times like these. Showing patriotism is the one way thet we're all the same. That common-ground is what keeps us together.

Even though Blair has made some bad choices I still admire him for dealing with all the shit thats gone down in his time as prime minister.

I was thinking that earlier. I don't think it was about the cause that the G8 were working for, I think it was more the fact taht so many powerful men would be gathered there. Scare factor and all.

Terrorists are selfish, and only care about themselves. Besides, G8 deals with other stuff like Iraq too, which effects the terrorists in one way or another.
I just heard on the news some Americans were either killed or injured in the explosion. Oh lord.

I know that this may start conspiracy theories and stuff but my mates dad was 'advised' to move from Tavistock Square by the police 20 minutes before any of the blasts... :wth:
Lucky he took the 'advice'
This is indeed a tragedy, the biggest terrorist attack on UK soil they're calling it. The ironic thing is, me & my friends were going to go to London on a day trip this week as i'm off work, luckily we didn't. I feel for the victims and family's and anyone else effected by this.

Heres a letter from the mujahidin.
"In the name of God, the merciful, the compassionate, may peace be upon the cheerful one and the dauntless fighter, Prophet Muhammad, God’s peace be upon him. O nation of Islam and nation of Arabism: Rejoice for it is time to take revenge from the British Zionist Crusader Government in retaliation for the massacres Britain is committing in Iraq and Afghanistan. The heroic mujahidin have carried out a blessed raid in London. Britain is now burning with fear, terror, and panic in its northern, southern, eastern, and western quarters. We have repeatedly warned the British Government and people. We have fulfilled our promise and carried out our blessed military raid in Britain after our mujahidin exerted strenuous efforts over a long period of time to ensure the success of the raid. We continue to warn the governments of Denmark and Italy and all the Crusader governments that they will be punished in the same way if they do not withdraw their troops from Iraq and Afghanistan. He who warns is excused

Luckily for us, this wasn't as devastating as the 9/11 attacks, but still, very much a tragedy at the least. I heared that not all the bombs went off as planned though, so maybe there was meant to be more damage caused. Who knows. :(

There weren't nearly as many casualties as 9/11, but they're both as serious, both as ridiculous in their motive, and no matter how many people died, every death or injury is grief to some family somewhere. If there was a mistake with the bombs, then all I can say is that those were great mistakes. I just feel terrible for all this new tension and pressure put on the average citizen now, because nobody knows what's the next destination. Best of hopes.

The security around Live 8 was probably much tigher then the security around the London underground.
And killing innocent people = causing panic and getting attention.

i am so glad for you that your friend is alive and being treated. i woke up this morning and put on the tv and the programme i was watching was reflecting on the events of yesterday. they had imense praise for the emergency services and were saying that all those how got to hospital, all survived and treatment is going well. so hopefully this will be the case, Nikki, for your friend.
i am so proud of the way us Britsh people have coped with the events in London. people in the blasts are not running around looking for blame as they know that the right authorities will be doing their jobs and looking for these people (if i can even call them that) and deal with them accordingly.
still, i wish everyone who walking wounded that was in the blasts and those families, well and RIP to those unfortunate to not survive.

I'm so so sorry to the families and friends of people that got hurt. I can't imagine what they're going through concidering 100 people are missing and 700 are still hurt. The people who did this are selfish and cowards. I was talking to my family about this last night and they said that whoever did this is screwed because, really, you don't mess with the Brits.

Well I got a phonecall from Gavin today telling me that he had heard about Kyle. Right now he's in hospital. He's in a bad state (he's not telling me everything though so I don't know hoe bad). But at least we know he's being taken care of
I'm slightly less worried now...But still royally pissed off that this happened
I wish him luck. :) [/b][/quote]
Gah..I was hoping that he'd be fully alright and not even in a 'bad state'. Now I really want London to strenghten their search on Al-Queda. When someone you love/a friend is hurt because of these attacks, it just because so much more meaningful.
He most likely was on one of the buses, it's my best guess. :(

And I talked to my friend from Michigan, Nick, who's been spending his summer over in London, he's doing well, luckily we wasn't near the blast.

Hm... the only thing I've heard of is an anonymous post on an Islamic message board saying it was them. I guess I'll wait for the British investigations to conclude.

I just heard it on the news when you posted this topic, I was shocked, still am.. I know this can happen everywhere and anytime but you never expect it to actually happen. This is goddamn useless.
I heard that the Israelian secret security informed London about the coming explosions just before it happened. Anyone know about this?
weeks before the lockerby disaster the government was fully warned about what would explade (Tape Player) what kind of person would carry it and even the flight it would be on.
back on the subject of the bombings, i have a few people who are there just now, its scary to think he could have been blown up :o

I heard that the bombs were stolen from Russia or something like that? And that there were 6 but only 4 went off?
Or was that just a lie?

It was 4 bombs but they thought it was 7 due to some of them being inbetween train stations.

7 explosions, 7th month, 7th day. Coincidence? I doubt it.

I read that Canada could be the next target. What do you think?

Pfft. If we're a target, we're low on the list.
They warned Denmark and Italy to move troops out of Iraq. When they refuse to, those places will most likely be hit next.

Why'd they attack London then? I don't see much of a reason, other than the fact that they won the 2012 Olympics.

I've long thought that terrorists dont attack solely based on motive. They want to attack in places where there will be a lot of people, so sheer panic ensues and people start to worry.
That's why they hit the WTC, Pentagon and London's transporation systems. All are places where mass groups of people are located.

England has troops in Iraq. AFAIK, Canada doesn't (they stay out of shit, good idea). The war in Iraq is probably whats pissing these terrorists off. I'd be very surprised if Canada gets attacked, they're the last country that should be worried

That's unlikely because Canada gives the terrorists (like the Tamal Tigers) money.

But what does attackin civilians prove, IMO if they have a prob with bush or blair why aint they jus attackin the whitehouse and stuff like that.
The thing that has amazed me the most is readin messages of support from all over the world, its a shame that it takes something this negative to make the world come together :(

They want to show they have power. They cant just highjack a plane now or walk with C4's into the pentagon. Everything is double secured.
