So, I was wondering if any of you have any superstitions. What about your family--granparents, etc. Any certain "beliefs" from your culture?
--------------------------------------
The reason I put this in Serious Chat is because I've just notices how superstious my grandmother is and how serious she is about it.
1. Once, I put my purse on the floor and she said, "No, that's not good, if you do that you lower yourself in life." wtf
2. Oh and once we were at this Lotto Place and I sat on this table and she said that if you sit on tables your Lover will forget you. :wth:
3. Another one my mother told me once is that if someone sweeps your feet you'll never get married.
(Can't think of any more I've heard but there's more...)
I asked my mom about what my grandmom said and she belives them too. Wow, I really can't take these things serously. I don't beleve them myself but now it's just making me think, "What if it's true?"
--------------------------------------
What do you guys think about these beliefs?

When it comes to playing cards, I seriously believe in the Heart of the Cards as advertised by Yu-Gi-Oh.
No joke.

I'm not really superstitious. I seriously doubt those superstitions are real.

I believe in ESP to some extent.
I believe in ghosts.
I also believe that cats can see ghosts. (I read that in a book about Irish ghost stories...)

The superstitons I mentioned in my first post I don't believe. I think they're just stupid... and weird.

I believe that the stork brings babies to houses where women have fat bellies, and if the stork is busy, the men pick the babies out of farmer cabbage.
True story.

Some (but now many) superstitions kind of make sense. Take the superstition that it's bad to walk underneath ladders. I mean, who the fuck would actually do that?
I don't believe in superstitions, especially 'Feng-Shui'. That's the Chinese art of placing stuff ; it draws a lot from the balance of yin/yang, etc. When I lived in China, my dad's law firm decided to renovate their offices. To appease some of the secretaries and lawyers who were supersticious, he decided to consult a 'Feng-Shui Master' about where he should place offices, break down walls, etc.. That dude charged a shitload of money per hour, and gave useful suggestions such as (no joke) placing filing cabinets against the fire escapes, which would have blocked them off. He wasn't hired.
The Loch Ness Monster is my best friend.

i must be as low as dirt.
i think superstitions are completely asinine.
13 seems to be my lucky number, seriously, so I guess I'm not superstitious...or maybe I'm a devil child. :chemist:

I think i am quite superstitious...not in a obsessive way, but i am a strong believer in karma. AND those stupid chain letters that you get that say 'send to 100 people within 1 minute or you will have a terrible love life'. I know that its bullsh-t but i still have to send it on. Sorry to all those people
...i also dont like ladders and umbrellas (inside) much.
I'm very superstitious in a weird way. I always avoid cracks in the pavement and I totally freak out when a black cat runs across the street. I also avoid ladders. xD
I used to send those freaky kind of chain-letter to other people. I've dropped that habit, fortunatly.
Once I was making myself a sandwich and forgot to put the knife back. After I realized that I left the knife pointing at one of my pictures. I took it as a bad omen. I totally flipped my wig. x_x
I've had a lot of small freaky things happening.
Call me paranoid.

I was thinking of saying something like that but I was hesitant. Dunno why. :P
I just delete those stupid chain letters. It gets annoying, especially the fact that my friends send me them. Freaks me out, the fact that they believe in it.
ugh, i hate those chain-letters that say if you dont send it youre crush will hate you, the little girl from the ring will be by your bed, and/or your boobs/penis will shrink.
its crazy people actually believe that stuff.

i totally agree, see a chain letter, open, delete.
They should be happy i had enough decency to open the letter.

I'm not too superstitious but I do have two that I live by:
I always touch the 1st or 3rd baseline when going to/from the feild to the dugout in baseball
I will always choose black when playing a card game where I have to choose whether the next card will be red or black
