Wow :o Who's going to be his successor as the new pope? He hasn't even assigned one yet. But RIP Pope John Paul II.

In EuroTrip they said that they would elect a new pope in 15 days. Don't know wheather they were being serious or not.

The papal electors begin daily pre-conclave meetings immediately after the pope's death. They swear fidelity to the codes of secrecy, at the implicit risk of excommunication. All the cardinals then come together in public for the papal funeral Mass, which will be lead by the dean of the College of Cardinals. The others will take their places around the papal coffin in order of seniority.

The electors next assemble — no later than two weeks after the funeral, but no sooner than nine days after — to pick a successor to lead the world's 1.2 billion Catholics.

Afterwords, White Smoke means a new Pope, Black Smoke means something's gone wrong and it'll start again.

The news as been quite saddening for me, although I'm not a religious person. Rest in peace. :(

Apparently the new pope will not be an Amercian because " American's have too much power."

Because on the news they just said:

"People are already discussing who should succeed John Paul II. Many countries say that they hope that the new pope will not be American because the Americans already have too much power over politics"

Or something like that.

I don't know but I hate how they spent the whole news time talking about the Pope. I know he means a lot to someone but if I were dying, I wouldn't want myself to be recorded about to die. (they showed him on a bed lying perfectly still on the news)

Anyhow, RIP. I'm sure he has a whole other purpose whereever he is now.

I bet he'd been suffering a lot because of his illness and now that he has died...he needn't worry. He's off to a better place and what LornVourkolakas said, he's got another purpose whereever he is. Rest In Peace.

Just for the record, I know the black and American comments are completely irrelevant, but the black candidate for Pope is from Africa.

I suggest you edit that statement, before someone is offended, because that could be taken very offensive. I'm sure there are Catholics on this site that would just love to read that, and there are probably other people with different religions who would probably appreciate it just as much. Note the sarcasm.

I'm not telling you what to do or anything like that, it's your choice. It's not offensive to me anyways, but that's a good way to end up in a non needed fight.

Anyways, RIP to the poor man, he was sick for a long time, and now he doesn't have to suffer this world anymore.

I think what 0mega meant was that he was quite sick for a long time, and that he's very fortunate to live this long with all those health problems. But I agree, that could be taken offensively.

i know i'm probably going to sound stupid, but why were people praying for the pope? He's going to heaven, that's for sure. And it wasn't like a miracle was going to happen and he was going to get better. Was it so he has a safe journey to heaven or something?
