View Full Version : Green Day and Luda to "mash it up"?

Taking a queue from Jay-Z and Linkin Park, Green Day and Ludacris may be "mashing-it-up." That is if Ludacris gets his way. Right now the rapper is keeping his fingers crossed for an okay from Green Day for the project to take place.
"The rapper revealed plans -- or hopes -- to get Green Day's nod to a mash-up album on Jimmy Kimmel Live. Green Day has yet to comment about the rumor."
Dear God, no. Please...no. :paperbag:

He performed with Sum 41 on SNL. I wanted to see it, but then I found out it came on the night before.

That'd be hillarious if they turned him down.
A rock band needs to mash up with Rehab. Linkin Park toured with them and they have some serious talent.
Looks like Linkin Park has set another trend.

If this happens, I am going to approach it with the most open mind I can... I just can't imagine Ludacris' raps mixed with Green Day's songs... :wth:

Probably be the only time where I could tolerate Green Day.
ROLL WITH THE PUNCHES.
Collision Course wasn't THAT bad (still haven't wasted my money on it) because LP and Jay-Z are a little more closely related...but Green Day and Ludacris are 2 completley different things and I just don't think it would work at all

Of course, you do know that this is the point of the mash-up... I mean, you can't see The Beatles mashing up with NIN, can you? Yet people have done it. It's supposed to be wierd, it's two different styles merging into one.

Like stated below, The Beatles & NIN are completely different ends of the musical spectrum, and it managed to sound good.
I'd imagine the NIN & Beatles one would sound alot better if it was done by a professional though.
I'll give anything a try once.

Yeah, Ludacris completely ruined that show.
I hope this doesn't happen. MTV mashups suck. I might like the individual songs like on Collision Course, but they aren't mixed together well at all.

Its just that Green Day are doing so well at the moment and I'd be afraid if a Mash up would stop that.

A simple mash-up cannot wreck one's career. It's just not possible.
I'd say, wait and see if it happens. If it does, listen to it, and then make judgments on it. I don't believe in making empty judgments when you haven't even heard the material. It's not even confirmed to happen yet.
I think it could work. I mean, seriously. If Jay-Z & The Beatles can get mashed up and managed to be one of the best Mash-Ups ever, then I'm sure Green Day & Ludacris won't be too shabby.

I can't wait to hear a "Good Riddance vs. Get Back" mash-up though. Those acoustic guitars with the words "I Came, I Saw, I hit 'em right dead in the jaw" blasting over them.
I heard somthing on the radio the other day that they might be planning a Sum-41 Kudacris mash-up. Since theri performance on SNL went over so well. Either way if they wanted to do this i would definitely check it out Green Day can hold their own.

Green Day cannot work with rap. LP's okay, since they normally have rap, but a straightforward rock and roll band can't have rap.

Well, according to this mtv.com article, it looks like Sum 41 (instead of Green Day) and Ludacris may make a mash-up album. I bolded the parts where it mentions it:
Sum 41 drummer Steve Jocz's mind is racing.
He's just learned that his band will serve as an opening act on Mötley Crüe's summer-long Carnival of Sin Tour, and as such, he's trying really hard to think up ways he can match Crüe drummer Tommy Lee's nearly patented drum-solo heroics (including, but not limited to, being raised in the air and pulling full 360s while bashing the kit).
"Man, I don't know," he laughed. "I might get my drum tech to push my drum kit forward and then pull it back really fast. Or maybe we'll put it on wheels and I'll get some stagehands to spin it around.
"But anything we try to do, they'll definitely do it better. It's not like we're going to try and do a massive production, because anything we do will be dwarfed by them," he continued. "When we played the Spike TV [Video Game] Awards with them, their whole set was strippers and dudes on Harleys. So anything we do is going to look like the Stonehenge set from 'This Is Spinal Tap.' "
The Crüe's Carnival of Sin kicks off July 27 in Sacramento, California, and Sum 41 are just one of the acts tapped to play the opening slot (see "Motley Crue Plan Summertime Carnival Of Sin With Sum 41"). For Jocz, the tour can't begin quickly enough.
"When they asked us if we wanted to hit the road with them, we were like, 'Fuck yeah!' " he said. "I remember as a kid, being so interested in their personality. They're one of the bands that make you want to get in a band. Their whole life is partying and having fun. Whenever any dude says, 'I want to get in a band to get chicks,' if you ask him what band he has in mind as a model, he'll say Crüe every time."
Until the Crüe come calling, Jocz and the Sum 41 guys have their Go Chuck Yourself world tour (a string of North American dates begins April 7 in Toronto) and there's even talk of the guys reuniting with "Saturday Night Live" performance pal Ludacris (see "Luda, Sum 41 Get Down On 'Get Back' During 'SNL' Rehearsals") for a full-on mash-up record à la Jay-Z and Linkin Park's recent Collision Course collabo. Jocz played coy with the details but did admit that "discussions" were underway between both acts' management.
"I don't know anything else," he laughed. "I'm a little low on the totem pole to be involved in any discussions."
Though tight-lipped about the band's future plans, Jocz did peer deep into the crystal ball and come back with one prediction: There's going to be a whole lot of Crüe-inspired partying going on this summer.
"I'm not really sure what to expect, because I'm not sure who's in [Alcoholics Anonymous] or anything like that. But hopefully they'll be the gasoline and we'll be the match, and something will explode," he said. "Because I remember when [the Crüe's tell-all book] 'The Dirt' came out, [Sum 41 frontman] Deryck [Whibley] and I both read it in, like, a day, and we cut out the pictures, and I put a little picture of Tommy in my bunk, and he put a little picture of Nikki [Sixx] in his bunk, and we'd wake up every day and be like, 'I'm going to be like you today.' That book was like our touring bible, and they were the patron saints of me getting fucked up."
...so yeah. :chemist:

Linkin Park are one of the most copied bands.
Not that a mash-up is original, but coming from two artists who don't know how to be creative.

Even though they weren't the first band to try the mashup idea, they were the first band to put out a CD with the cooperation of the other artist (Jay Z).
