Metallica Frontman Wishes 'St. Anger' Songs Were Shorter
Metallica frontman James Hetfield has told Launch Radio Networks that the past 16 months playing songs from the group's latest album, 2003's "St. Anger", has allowed him to gain some perspective on the effort, though he said his opinion of "St. Anger" hasn't changed much, and that he has mixed feelings about it. "Well, my hindsight is somewhat similar to what it was in the studio, which is I feel the songs were a little too long, and I wish they weren't that long," he said. "But, you know, live, when we play them, we can always shorten them."
"St. Anger" was Metallica's first set of all-new material since 1997's "Reload". It was also the band's first album since 1999's "S&M" orchestral collaboration. Metallica expect to return to the studio next spring to begin recording their first album for Warner Bros.

this news is old but better late than never. But sometimes I do wonder whether reducing song length would matter much since the quality of St.Anger's music is pure crap.I mean Master of Puppets runs for 8:33 but yet it is pleasing to listen to it-so much so that i once listened to it about 16 times in one day.But Invisible Kid of almost the same length(8:30) makes you feel bored midway through the song. They need a new producer.
