News.com.au is reporting that a Japanese broadcaster has voiced anger and apologized after sponsoring a weekend concert at which a rock band played the Internet footage showing the beheading of a Japanese hostage in Iraq.
Tokyo Broadcasting System said it had no forewarning of the stunt.
"Showing this kind of video in public can never be forgiven on humanitarian grounds," the network said in a statement.
"As the sponsor, we offer deep apologies to the family of (Shosei) Koda, people who came to the concert and other people concerned," the statement said, without naming the band that showed the video.
Footage of Islamic militants decapitating the 24-year-old backpacker was shown on a large screen during Sunday's concert in Urayasu, the city east of Tokyo that hosts Tokyo Disneyland.
KLACK, a Japanese band that was one of 12 groups featured in the concert, showed the video for more than 10 minutes, local media reported.
Koda, described as a gentle but naive young man, became Japan's only hostage executed in Iraq after travelling to Baghdad as a tourist and searching aimlessly for a hotel.
An al-Qaeda linked group associated with Iraq's most wanted man, Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, posted a video on the Internet demanding that Japan withdraw its troops from Iraq within 48 hours.
The demand was rejected by Tokyo.
A week later, the group released footage of three hooded men pouncing on Koda and beheading him.

What the hell?
That's worse than the whole thing Gorgoroth did to get banned from the Vatican or where ever they got banned from.
Seriously.

I don't think what Gorgoroth did was that serious.
All they did was slaughter animals on stage and crucify nude women. It's not that bad, but it is against the law to re-inact the crucifixiton in the Vatican, I think.
NOTE: I love animals, for the record.
Yeah, but what Gaahl did (singer for Gorgoroth) was bad. He beat the fuck out of an old man, and drank his blood.

I forgot their names, but I know what you're talking about.
It was the band Mayhem, I believe. Their guitarist commited suicide, and the singer found him. The lead singer apparently ate a part of his brain (he cooked it first, seriously), and made a necklace from the guitarist skull bones. So I guess that means he skinned the guitarist first, or something.
There's another story, where Varg, lead singer of a band I forgot, murdered another lead singer of another band, and went to jail, then escaped for a few days, then got caught.
Also, a guitarist for Varg's band (I think), lured a homosexual who wanted to make love to him to his house, and murdered him.

Well, that's what the world's like, some people think the world is all fun and games. Sooner or later they need to wake up and see what happens to real people. This would be a good wakeup call.

That whole chicken incident never happened, well, at least the way the media tells it. Someone threw up a rubber chicken onto the stage and Alice threw it back into the crowd. Alice just took advantage of the whole situation and lied to boost up sales.

About the Mayhem story:
Varg Vikernes killed Euronymous, he didn't drink his blood. (And Euronymous didn't commit suicide, obviously). Don't listen to all that crap out there, it's just rumours meatn to make black metal for Norway loook evil etc.
Gaahl did do what you say though. His mother said at the court that he wasn't trying to drink his blood, because he's a vegetarian. All he was trying to do is prevent the blood from messing up the carpet.
Seriously, that's what she said

I've never heard the rumour about Varg drinking Euronymous' blood, actually. I have a friend on the 'net who loves this kind of shit, so I get most of my music/facts/history from him. Never heard that one though. All I heard was that he murdered Euronymous.
I know Gaahl did what he did, since I'm a Gorgoroth fan (when I'm in the mood), but I've never heard that tidbit about his mom testifiying. That's fucking priceless.

Oh yeah because we all know doing things like that on stage makes you REAL cool. And then people wonder why I can't stand bands like that and crap. Play the music and don't do stunts to grab attention, if you do that, chances are you aren't the best band out there and shouldn't be performing in the first place.
Sorry if that sounded cold but that's the way I view it. The only 'shock acts' that I believe to deserve the hype are Manson and Slipknot.

Hey, Manson wore prosthetic tits and creepy makeup and he was deemed a 'shock act'. Don't see how Slipknot are any different, especially considering some of their masks have been pretty fucked. Nothing compared to gorgoroth or whatever that band was that was banned from Germany, but still.

Manson did other things.
Slipknot wearing a mask doesn't make them a shock act in the slightest.
Because if that was the case, Mushroomhead and KISS would be shock acts, too.
Doctor Manhattan
12-30-2004, 09:24 PM
KISS is/was considered one of the first shock acts, since Gene Simmons did/does the blood thing. But then they ruined it by taking off the paint and co-writing songs with Michael Bolton.
Anyways, Derek, that's nice if you don't want to acknowledge Gorgoroth's exsistence. The fact is, the metal scene in Norway (and all of Europe basically) is far different from our metal scene. They burn down churches and murder rival frontmen. I can't find a valid excuse to tell you, but it's just the way it is. I like the music, the acts on stage aren't acts, some of them really believe in what they're doing (slaughtering animals = offering to Satan, etc). Not saying Gaah is Satanic, but most of them that burn the chapels in Norway are doing it for a reason, not just for pety 'shock value'.

I just dont understand the purpose for it. I'm sure you all remember the Deftones/Linkin Park thing only a few months ago.
That'd be like Chaz going up to Chino and saying "I hate you" and then blowing his brains out.
There's absolutely no sense in it, and as good as the band's music could possibly be to some people, its ignorant and moronic.

That's because they're from a completely different culture and they take their music far more seriously than anyone here does.

Exactly.
While metal bands hear sing about Satan in their lyrics, bands in Norway and other places are actually living it. This isn't meant to be a stage act Derek, it's for real. You can say it's moronic, but the fact is you're not involved in the culture and that type of music, so you won't understand. You're like that Staind lyric, "i'm on the outside lookin' in".
No offense, but you're judging something you know nothing about.
Also, you say Slipknot & Manson deserve the hype because each band respectively wears masks and fake tits? But a band that does far worse and actually believe in it (compared to Manson, who talks about the same things basically, and only does it for shock value) shouldn't be taken seriously?
I fail to see the logic.

I think he means that unlike other "shock rock" bands he knows of Manson and Slipknot actually capture his attention as good artists. Therefore their stages shows aren't covering up bad music but backing up already good music with a good visual show.
