Ok it says so that theres a super volcano under Yellowstone National Park

http://news.nationalgeographic.com/news/20...ellowstone.html (http://news.nationalgeographic.com/news/2001/08/0828_wireyellowstone.html)

If this thing is going to blow then its going to be big , half of USA will be effected by it.

I dont know if the story is true but it seems so. Ive seen it been posted before in other forums...

Ok, a few things to consider...

What makes Old Faithful work?
What makes the floor of the lake expand?
What 'powers' all of the geothermal hot springs, etc... in the park?

There IS something there, and yes, it is volcanic. The question is...how big is the risk?

If it's national geographic saying it, then it's true.

That's crazy. Didn't know that.

If it erupts, it's going to affect the entire world.

If you mean affect the entire world in a geographical way, like change of weather or whatever it may cause, then yes, maybe, who knows.

If you mean it like "millions of Americans will die, the world will never be the same", then HELL NO. You Americans are not far that important as you think.

Maybe Canada could take advantage of this to invade the USA :chemist: .

No offense, but that was very, very uncalled for. I mean, really. There was absolutely no grounds for that comment at all. I was very offended by that comment. You were warned once about saying degrading things about Americans before, and you're trying for another one? Seriously, come on, you're smarter than that. You're also stereotyping and generalizing, making it seem like every American thinks he or she is better than everyone else, and that isn't the case in the slightest. It's stereotypical people like you who make Americans look bad. I could care less if you don't like the country, but don't generalize and make it seem like every single American thinks that way. Jesus Christ.

And no, the world wouldn't be the same if "millions of Americans died" because the US is a huge portion of the world's economy.

Will, I mean I know you aren't that kind of guy, but you gotta admit some Americans see the USA as the most important country of the world, and therefore Americans as the most important human beings.

^ Has a point, but I can see what Will meant with generalizing. I mean, I don't think America's the greatest country in the world, and I live in it, that proves her statement wrong right there.

I don't appreciate the fact that she generalized the entire American public like that. It's ridiculous and didn't even have anything to do with the topic at all. I don't care if she hates the country; don't you dare come in and knock on my door and call me stuck-up when you know nothing about me and the way I view life. Just because one person is that way does not in the slightest mean that I am.

Actualy I looked into this and if the volcano blew it wouldn't just take out half of America,It would take out every other country that has a volcano on it.The structure of the plates beneath the volcano are what is know as a 'destructive plate boundary' meaning that the plates are moving away from each other which sometimes causes volcanic eruptions, however the plates are above a corse of connected mantle, connecting different volcanoes throughout the world (not all but more than 2 thirds) and if the pressure of the mantle is pushed along with the plate then this volcanoe is gonna blow.It could also create more volcanoes as the mantle pushes up through the earths crust. If this thing blows then we could have a global crisis! :ohno:

I did a report on Super Volcanoes once. The one in Yellowstone is over-due for eruption. Once it erupts (or even if it does erupt) a ****load of ash and gas will spew out. They will be enough of ash to block out the sun and cause a global winter. Reports have shown that other super volcanoes have erupted very, very long ago and after eruption there was a global temperature drop. I think there's another one in New Zealand or somewhere around there.

If I could find my report on it I would upload it and post it for you guys to read.

Look guys, if Yellowstone goes off ALL OF YOU get effected. The lava from the eruption isn't the issue it's the gases and ash. It doesn't matter if you live in Canada, the South Pole, the UK or even some small island smack dad in the middle of no where. You will be affected somehow or another.

EDIT: Found my report on it.
