Single: 1-3 songs
EP (Extended Play [longer than a single]): 4-9 songs
LP (Long Play [longer than both a single and EP]): 10+ songs

LP's arent always 10, Staind's second album, Dysfunction, was only 9 songs and its not considered an EP.

There are always exceptions to RIAA standards.
Fatboy Slim had to have one of his singles taken off the shelves a few years ago because he tried passing it off as a single when it was an EP. I have no idea how or why, but it's true.

Hmm. I always thought an Ep was just an independant release.. and an LP was under a record lable.

Nope. Adema released Insomniac's Dream, an EP, under their label, Arista (sp).

yeah i always thought an EP was independent but then Adema released Insomniac's Dream and confused me lol
