Should the voting age be raised?

I think it should but not a lot. 16 is pretty resonable. Besides. if a 15 or 16 year old goes an vote whats the goverment going to do, put 'em in jail for helping the nation

Raised? Don't you mean lowered? It's 18 right now. You can't raise it backwards. :lol:

Anyway, I don't think it should be lowered, because there are way too many naïve and misinformed kids under 18 who have no idea what they're talking about half the time. The underclassmen in my school are so ridiculously misinformed that I just want to hit them all six times. It's really pathetic. I'd rather it be left up to people who are at least 18, because their maturity shows since the majority of them would be seniors in high school and up.

I say keep it as it is. If they lowered it you would get all the idiotic people voting because they think they are 'cool' to vote for someone or they will just think too high of their opinion and not even think about the other side of the argument. I think it should be 18 for everyone, however, if you're 16 or 17 and have a job, you should be able to vote. When you have a job, taxes are taken out of your paycheck automatically. IMO, if you're paying taxes, you deserve the right to vote to decide who's representing your country since the amount you pay all comes down to the people in charge. No taxation without representation.....

i think 18 is a good age. and besides, if the kid voting was 16 they would probly just vote teh way thier parents do because that is waht they are tought to believe and know. 16 is too young. but dotn get me wring i woudl LOVE to vote this election, i miss the cut off cuz i wont b 18 until January :angry:

I don't think you could pin a definite age on it. I mean, there's no age limit to ignorance, but the government HOPES that you grow up enough and are mature enough by 18 to vote intelligently.

Ignorance exists at any age....16 or 60, so ignorance isn't an excuse to raise the voting age.

Same with the driving age, a lot of people say to raise it becuase when you're 16, you're a new driver and are a threat on the road....problem is, raise the driving age to 20, so someone turns 20, gets their license, they're still a n00b when it comes to driving and are probably going to do something stupid

In my opinion I think the age should be dropped to 16.I say this because if we can have responsablities to have sex,smoke and drive a car,then without a doubt we should be able to vote for who runs our country.I,along with about 100 other people had a debate about this with the prime minister of england himself-tony blair,we all raised some really good points but in the end it was passed off as un-negotiable :angry:

I think 18 is OK, it's when standard education ends and people are supposed to be less ignorant than e.g. before senior high school. Of course, a 16 yo can be much more in politics than an adult, but we gotta have a limit, no?

The voting age should remain at 18. Until your 18 you dont have to pay taxes, or pay into any kind of government programs, because your still a student. Or at least that's how it is in canada. When you turn 18 that's usually when your finished grade school and ready to go into the real world. So until then when the real world starts to affect you, you shouldn't be allowed to vote.

In the U.S. you pay taxes at any age as long as you have a job.

There are also alot of naïve and misinformed adults as well ;)

18 is the age you are an adult (in most places) and an individual, you can then make your own decisions separate from your parents. It's the actual "mental" age of the person that matters but I think the line is fine where it is.

Well yah, here you pay taxes too as long as you ahve a job, but when it comes time to do your taxes and your a student, you can claim every single bit of it and get it all back.

I think it should stay the same. And driving has nothing to do with voting. If you can drive when you are 16 years old, I think you still have to vote when you are 18 years old. We are talking about what age should we vote. We are gonna vote for the next country leader, it is a lot more responsability than learn the way from Florida to New York driving a car. 18 is okay for me.
