Wow, now that's disgusting. They made a fake prison and arrested people they suspected to be terrorists (but with no firm links!). Sorry, but even if one is an ex-Military man that's just wrong... I don't care if he ever did help the military.

Plain ignorance, thats all it is...

You'd think that with all the new sources of communication we can better understand/appreciate different cultures but many Americans (and others too!) are as ignorant to different cultures now as they were a 100 years ago.

If the American government really appreciated/respected other cultures then they wouldn't assert its economic dominance unfairly all over the world, once concentrated in Latin America, its looks like the prime focus is the Middle East, citing the huge shortages in oil coming up very soon.
And if they wanted to focus on 'Democracy' in which all citizens have a say they would try not to inhibit the American public from information that would help them respect other cultures more. But if the citizens feel sympathy for Arabs, that will definately make it harder to push their interests in the Middle East.

Oh man, reading Noam Chomsky makes me understand all of this so much more :P
