I'm working all summer to fix this. So laugh, but I do everything on this PC, I've really scrapped together a good pc

Intel Pentium 3 450 mhZ
192 megs sdr ram
10gig HD w/ 5 gig slave
Compaq Cd Rom (no idea what speed or specs)
LG 52x32x52x CD-RW
Asus Radeon 9200 SE 128meg DDR
Some cheap generic sound card..

After this summer, I'm going to have money from working, and I'm going to look for a job as well. Here is what I would like:

Intel Pentium 4 3.2ghz
1 GB DDR Ram
160gig hd w/80 gig slave
ATI x800 video card (damn right)
DvD-RW
Same crappy generic sound card (I use headphones)
Raidmax SCORPIO Case
Wireless keyboard mouse etc etc...

But for the crappy specs that I have now, I can do some pretty cool stuff with my PC.

Put another stick or two of RAM in that sucker! That processor is too good to put to waste ;)

Well, actually, it doesn't really matter if you're not a gamer. Nevermind.

Right... Right.. okay then.

Yea. Yep.. What would you suggest ...

What does it mean when your computer tells you "virtual memory too low, beginning memory check." the crashes* ... doesnt start up until your 4th try and then once you're logged on tells you "insufficiant system memory resources exsist to complete request..." *clicks okay, then the computer doesn't let do anything and restarts computer several more times* Yay it works!! .. For now..* :chemist: (I wrote that in the Random Thoughts topic and then realized that .. well.. I saw this topic. So blah.)

OK, here are my specs.

I started with a Seanix, 1999, but I change stuff each year, and few of the original parts I had are left.

Seanix Case (No need to change it IMO)
300W Power Supply (Was running on 200W, was about to toast up my PC)
ECS K7S5A SiS Socket A Motherboard (About to get out of my comp)
AMD Athlon XP 1800+ @ 266 mHz FSB (Will seemingly soon go).
Thermaltake Volcano Cu 6+ CPU Fan (Noisy as hell, will leave with MB & CPU)
Xelo nVidia FX 5200 128MB Video Card
Old SoundBlaster Card, no need to change it ATM.
Original Seanix Speakers (2pc.)
Original 15 in. monitor (sucks)
Original Printer (still works well).
Original MS/Seanix Keyboard
Microsoft Wheel Mouse Optical.

Ok all, bow in wonder to the crap-uter...

-900MHz AMD Athlon
-640MB PC133 ram
-Dual 40GB hard drives (I've had the displeasure of losing a hard drive twice...what an accomplishment...thankfully, Flight Sim 2004 + all my SELF-MADE mods never got touched...phew, there's hundreds of hours of work on that one)
-Gateway EV910 19" CRT monitor
-32MB GeForce2 vid card
-Sound Blaster Live! audio card
-No speakers, they got fried by lightning, so I use the Plantronics Audio 90 headset...great set IMO
-Standard 32x read DVD drive
-(the clincher) ... 8x4x32 CD writer. Yep, takes me 30 mins to burn a CD-R, and almost an hour for the -RWs. Sucks.
-Running on Windows ME, which is as stable as the San Andreas fault. I average 10-15 freezes/crashes/BSOD/CTD per day, and I'm gonna kill someone...

Anybody who wishes to donate to the Joe Prokopanko fund may send their system to......erm............never mind.

I'm building a new system based on the Athlon 64 this summer, provided I can cough up the three grand. Getting a job for that one...and the fact that my car now needs a thousand bucks in repairs won't help. Yep, I got run off the road by some drunk at the lake, who didn't even stop. Idiot.

Anyways, that's my POS. The real bottleneck on it is the flight sim, which has some...erm...custom modifications, like custom traffic, sceneries, AFCAD, etc.... that sucks resources. I get about 3 frames per second if I crank everything. Man, that proggie's hard on memory...cranking everything is asking for the blue screen...in fact, it's like trusting a monkey with a shotgun...

Anybody have any other horror stories about their system?

-900MHz AMD Athlon
-640MB PC133 ram
-Dual 40GB hard drives (I've had the displeasure of losing a hard drive twice...what an accomplishment...thankfully, Flight Sim 2004 + all my SELF-MADE mods never got touched...phew, there's hundreds of hours of work on that one)
-Gateway EV910 19" CRT monitor
-32MB GeForce2 vid card
-Sound Blaster Live! audio card
-No speakers, they got fried by lightning, so I use the Plantronics Audio 90 headset...great set IMO
-Standard 32x read DVD drive
-(the clincher) ...* 8x4x32 CD writer.* Yep, takes me 30 mins to burn a CD-R, and almost an hour for the -RWs.* Sucks.
-Running on Windows ME, which is as stable as the San Andreas fault.* I average 10-15 freezes/crashes/BSOD/CTD per day, and I'm gonna kill someone...

Anybody who wishes to donate to the Joe Prokopanko fund may send their system to......erm............never mind.

I'm building a new system based on the Athlon 64 this summer, provided I can cough up the three grand.* Getting a job for that one...and the fact that my car now needs a thousand bucks in repairs won't help.* Yep, I got run off the road by some drunk at the lake, who didn't even stop.* Idiot.

Anyways, that's my POS.* The real bottleneck on it is the flight sim, which has some...erm...custom modifications, like custom traffic, sceneries, AFCAD, etc....* that sucks resources.* I get about 3 frames per second if I crank everything.* Man, that proggie's hard on memory...cranking everything is asking for the blue screen...in fact, it's like trusting a monkey with a shotgun...

Anybody have any other horror stories about their system?
:chemist:
How much space is your FS04 taking? Mine is 4Gig now  . [/b][/quote]
Man, you have FS04?! I thought I was the only one here that had it...right now, my folder is pretty big...I'm up to 9.18GB. That's nothing though, Brandon (from ProjectAI) has one in the order of 70GB I believe. I've seen a screenshot of that. As far as mine's concerned, most of it is my aircraft (400 of 'em) and scenery/mesh... Perhaps you know about ProjectAI...click here (http://www.projectai.com)...custom AI traffic to get rid of the fake "Soar Airlines", etc...and replace them with actual traffic from the real schedules. Just watch your frames per second, it can get sorta dodgy...

Well, usually, I fly in Quebec Province, mainly at CYQB, CYUL and CYBG. The traffic is not really dense even if it's somewhat dense IRL (a plane each 10 mins), would downloading it change something?

Being short on hard drive space, I had to take it easy on downloads  .

It puts the real world schedules into your airports. For example, go to CYUL at 1229 - - AC1198 will arrive from Winnipeg...an A319. A lot of the major airlines are done already, and they're in auto-installers. All it does is add some aircraft to your aircraft directory, and modify the trafficxxxxxx.bgl file (the xxxxxx is actually numbers). After that, you need to get Lee Swordy's AFCAD2 and download an AFCAD file (from Avsim - under "FS2004 - AFCAD Files") and install them by putting the .BGL file into FS9/Addon Scenery/Scenery. The .BGLs average 20KB or less, so space isn't an issue here... If you're thinking of modifying your AI traffic, best to visit here (http://www.flightsimmer.com), as there's a forum there to go to for help on getting started. Enjoy!
