First thing's first: Please don't ever type like that again, it's one of the most annoying things ever :chemist:

Second thing: No offence mate, but does it really hurt to type two extra letters to finish off the word 'you'?

And yeah...that style of typing is closely followed up by Avril herself.

Avril is nice for a good listen. I do dig the "Don't Tell Me" song.
By the way, was Avril supposed to be a ghost in the video for "Don't Tell Me"?

I think that Avril has poetential to become a very good songwriter, but as of right now I don't think she's that great...her voice is pretty good, and she has a couple good songs, but she doesn't bring anything new or interesting to the table, in my opinion.

Maybe I'd like her more if she hadn't been shoved down my throat so much. Avril Lavigne is part of the reason I almost never listen to the radio :P

I'm not a fan, the best thing Avril ever did was the "Fuel" cover at "Metallica Icon" and even that's border line.

I bought her last CD, I admit it.

That's about as far as it goes. Atleast she didn't #### Fred Durst like he wanted.

Aww man that's the only song I like.

Errr, I think Avril has enough common sense not to write a not-giving-up-my-sex sort of song about someone she's met twice. but in anycase.

Avril Lavigne spoke with Rolling Stone magazine about how she shot down LIMP BIZKIT frontman Fred Durst after hanging out with him at the METALLICA tribute concert. She said, "[Backstage at a METALLICA tribute] I mentioned to Fred that I was hungry — like, 'I want an In-N-Out burger'. He had someone go out and get me a whole box of them, with fries. I was like [sarcastically], 'Yeah!' Then he took a private jet out to one of my shows, expecting me to bang him. He was disappointed that I wouldn't even go near him [laughs]. He was a little pissed that I went to my room alone that night." I think you guys need to grow up a little, and throw out your conceptions that she's a "poser" (its poseur btw). Sure she might not be the Sid Vicious of mainstream radio, but I have to say that I've enjoyed every song she's released, and chances are I'll enjoy her new CD when I force Mark to send it to me. If you havent noticed she's tried to harden up her sound and image a little, because she didnt want to make a first record that was that poppy, but had no choice in the matter to begin with.

After all, Mark thinks her new cd is REALLY good, so where is he when you need him to give his opinions?

I don't think the "punk" label was her fault. She says it all the time in articles--"I'm a pop artists."

The "punk" frenzy, IMO came from the media--ohmygodsheswearingbaggypantsshessucharebel!

But yeah. I already stated my opinion of her music, so I won't go into that again.

She sings pop-rock music, but she isn't fake like all those other pop artists. She doesn't strip, and she doesn't lip synch. All she does is play the guitar, write her own lyrics and sing in a rock band. I think she's very talented, and I love how she's an individual, and isn't pushed around by others. Her songs are meaningful, despite popular belief, because I've heard both albums and they're both good albums. I have alot of respect for Avril.

She can't ####### play guitar. Cassie went to one of her concerts. She had 2 other guitarists and a bass player. Plus her. Don't tell me that Avril's music requires 3 guitars. All she does is strum it. Who knows if she writes it. Alot of artists buy poems and songs off sites like poems.com.

it's true.

she can't sing. Remember MTVIcon: Metallica? Yeah. Some say that was a great showing by Avril, but come on. In reality it was kinda sucky.

I haven't seen her live since, she might have changed, but I know that she's still writing cookie cutter pop-rock.

Oh, as for her writing her own lyrics...well, supposedly Milli Vanilli wrote their own lyrics too. We all know how that turned out.

Not trying to change anyones opinion, nor am I looking for a debate/arguement about Avril. Just stating my opinion.

She did that twice actually. The first time she did it, her pants were apparently just hanging out and it showed. She claimed it wasn't a big deal. Next year, they asked her if she would do something like that again and she voluntarily lowered her pants and that's when she wrote MMVA (MuchMusic Video Awards) on it. not really. if you listen to the song and watch the video on a deeper level then it all makes sense. but, avril supposed to be this haunting memory for this guy that raped her or something like that and she's following him all over the city making him all paranoid. when i first saw it i thought she was just stalking him but after my sis pointed out i understood it better.

as for my opinion on avril, she's ok. i didn't like her at first...then i did...now i don't...so it all depends on what i think of her latest album to determin if i'll like her again.

She said in an interview that the biggest mistake people make about her is that they say "she's trying to be punk" and that she never said she was punk and isn't trying to be punk.

And I think she's talented... She's gotta be, or she wouldn't be famous... (No one mention William Hung and completely disprove my theory) :P

She must be doing something right to be famous.
I don't like her voice, she sounds country. He songs have the most annoying tunes and it's really bad. Though some of the lyrics are OK.
I can't stand her bratty attitude and she has a face like a rat.

Oh god, I love her clothes....:D

But, Avril Sucks.

What does her image have to do with anything?

I hate how people associate image with music.

Image is image. Music is music.

Who cares what she looks like?

Well, she's not the only artist who swears on television. So you can't use that to say anything. Besides, since the thing was being televised, she already has the attention she needs anyway.

Also, while I don't personally like her music, I don't think the "punk" thing is her fault. Punk is "cool" (at least, pop-punk...the day that Crass is trendy I'll die of shock) so the media says "Ooooh look! She doesn't look anything like Briteny! She's holding a guitar in her video! Punk!"

I was watching some entertainment program about a week ago and they were discussing Avril's recent appearance on TRL. Avril was hosting and they were quizzing her, asking her questions to the effect of "Why are you so angry?" and "Do you consider yourself a diva?" She was obviously displeased with what she heard because she flipped them all off. :wth:

Willstar
06-05-2004, 10:48 PM
Why in the world would someone ask her that?

I hate people who don't know what a diva is.

A diva is a female musician who has had an TREMENDOUS impact on music.

i.e. Madonna, Cher, Mariah Carey, Celine Dion.

Britney, Christina, Jennifer, Beyonce, Avril... none of them are divas.

None of them have been around long enough.

Sorry. Misuse of the word "diva" pisses me off.

diva can also be classified as a woman in the music industry that throws fits backstage, acts like an ass, etc.

So there are two meanings to the word Diva.

And Mariah Carey isn't a Diva. Replace her with Whitney Houston or die a horrible death.

EDIT: Just incase you refuse to believe that:

An operatic prima donna.
A very successful singer of nonoperatic music: a jazz diva.
- dictionary.com

We're both right.

Um... i wasn't talking about the way she looks, but her WHOLE image. I mean, instead of swearing and geting angry live, she could very easily say something which would make the presenter look like an idiot, instead of having the "angry kid" attitude.

Avril's music is nothing special, she's selling on her image that was prefabricated by the media and record companies. Her 'anti-Britney punk' image is very marketable after the innocent-pop-queens like Britney have lost all their credibility.

How elitist of you Phantom, as per.

It's not Avrils' fault that she's labeled as "pop-punk" (God, I hate saying that). It's all these adolescent (and mostly female) fans of hers that call her punk.
Because Avrils' music is nothing more than pop on scuzz, it's light on the ears, and so easy for people who have been brought up on pop to listen to. These people buy her records and copy her image for credibility. It's as if they all sat down together and came to the conclusion "She rattles around on a skateboard! She wears Converse! She carries a guitar! She's PUNK!!!"

The way whoever started this topic typed the title says it all. I respected Avril as a pop singer before, but it's stuff like that that really p*sses me off.

What's irritating is the debate over whether or not her style is original and whether or not it should be called "punk". Believe it or not, some people choose their clothes because they like them, and it has nothing to do with rebellion or conformity.

Well, most bands today also try to get the "nu metal" label off them, but that's the music they play, cannot change it. In the same way, Avril has to stop trying acting like a punk in order no to be called one.

Ok, I'll admit it, I have both her albums and I'm really liking her new one.

Some of you are making Avril Lavigne sound like she is such an awful person. Well, she isn't. I mean it's like - she's way better than Hilary Duff and Ashlee Simpson (examples of girls who can't sing for crap).

And I have to say she sounds more "punk" than this chick band called Lillix.

I don't think she's a poser. She writes her own music and stays true to herself.
