Any fans of this band here? Their fifth album Synthetica is going to come out June 12th, but it's leaked. I've loved pretty much all their releases, though Fantasies holds a special place. The new album is pretty great: lyrically a step up from Fantasies, witht he same indie sensibilities that have made them so infectious.
I really like this band, I have their albums "Fantasies" and "Old World Underground, Where Are You Now?" and they're both great, though I prefer Fantasies. I got introduced into this band thanks of Mike Shinoda himself, when he released his Metric remix. I didn't know they were working on a new record, but I will probably listen to it as soon as I have the time to do it. Anyway, I'm glad I saw this thread, it had been a while since I listened to Metric for the last time and I had forgotten how good they are...blasting some of their tunes right now
Great band, really good live too. And Canadian, which is a plus in my books! Really loving the new album. The title-track is probably my favourite, followed by Speed The Collapse, Lost Kitten, and Nothing But Time. Fantasies is one of my favourite albums of all time. I haven't been able to get into Old World Underground... though. Linkin Park fans trying to get into this band should hear Mike Shinoda's remix of Gold, Guns, Girls.
That's what hugely got me into Metric to begin with. That, and Mike including Help I'm Alive in one of his mixtape podcasts. I thought it was pretty funny that after the line "beating like a hammer" we immediately got Can't Touch This by MC Hammer.
I found them after I found out black sheep from Scott pilgrim was theirs loved them since. They are amazing. My fav songs are dead disco, empty, and of course black sheep
Agree with all the Fantasies love, probably their best album IMO. But Old World Underground is a close second. Standout tracks from Synthetica are the title track, Breathing Underwater, Speed the Collapse.
Does the instrumentation of "Speed The Collapse" sound like Muse's "Exogenesis Symphony" to anyone else?
Speed the Collapse is great, though. Pushed away, I'm pulled towards, Comedown of revolving doors Everyone (war?) that we ignored, Drifting in from distant shores The wind presents a change of course A second reckoning of sorts We were wasted waiting for A comedown of revolving doors. Faith, don't fail me now.
This thread brought me back to repeating "Help, I'm Alive" and getting it stuck back in my head. Thanks guys! but yeah, Metric's amazing. I still need to listen to them more, so I'm going to start with "Fantasies".
I'm giving the album a listen to right now. About halfway through at the moment. Really fucking impressive.
Seems like I will check the album sooner than I expected. Those positive comments makes me impatient to hear that
I'm actually doing the same right now. Really like Breathing Underwater, Artificial Nocturne too. So far this year, this album and Some Nights by Fun. are the only two albums that have really caught my ear on the first listen. This is also the first Metric album I'm listening start to finish. I've been meaning to check them out for a while, and this was as good a time as any.
Should definitely check out the entirety of Fantasies. I find it's a more complete album than Synthetica, although Synthetica has some brilliant tracks. Not one skippable song on Fantasies.
