the new songs blow....sry, but this is really bland, boring stuff. kill the dj has awful lyrics, the instrumentation of the other bunch is really bad. i really liked american idiot and in some ways 21st century breakdown, but this: no, not good at all.
Sometimes simple lyrics can be the best lyrics, When I Come Around and Basket Case are better both just to listen to and their narratives than almost everything off of 21CB, and both of those are ridiculously simple songs in terms of their lyrical content.
Yes, it's basic in terms of lyrics and songwriting, but it does almost sound like it could be off Insomniac or Nimrod. Better than KTDJ at any rate.
Am I the only one who thinks that all the songs of the Green Day are the same? Anyway, new release. Nuclear Family. from album ¡Uno!.
^ All the recent ones sound very similar, yeah but each album sounds pretty different from any preceding one. Nuclear Family's probably my favourite of the singles.
these songs hold my attention for about a minute 30 before just start zoning. They're catchy for second but they lose me just as fast.
It's been qite a while since I listened to Green Day. That's actually the first song I really like out of all the new ones we've heard so far. Oh Love gets pretty repetetive after a while, Kill the DJ's lyrics are kinda bad imo (wich is weird cause I liked Know Your Enemy lol) and Let Yourself Go was kinda meh, too (reminded me a lil' bit of old school Green Day, but the song just didn't really hit me, don't know why...)
Thankfully, all the worst songs seem to have been released early, none of the rest of the songs ever get as bad. Unfortunately, none of them are really standout, either.
From what they're saying (by which I mean some fans literally just said it with no backing and I've seen no other proof of), that Uno! was supposed to be 1039/Kerplunk styled, Dos! was supposed to be an Insomiac flavored venture, and that Tre! was supposed to be a Nimrod/AI fusion. If anything, however, Uno seems to be more American Idiot and Warning blended than anything. Which actually works well enough, it's just that nothing particularly is notable (except for the awful, awful singles). Maybe in a few more listens I'll be able to pick out some highlights, but as of now it's like a delightful nostalgia trip and literally nothing else.
Nuclear Family is pretty solid...until the stupid "TEN! ...NINE! ...EIGHT!" countdown at the end ruins it. How the FUCK did they think that was a good idea?
I liked it a lot more than I thought I would. It's got a great first and last third and all the weaker tracks are in the middle. It really is a return to roots as I can hear a lot of Insomniac, Nimrod and even a bit of Dookie in here. Sure, there are some duds, but I'm pretty sure these tracks will have a longer appeal than most of 21CB.
Really enjoying Stay The Night and Loss of Control, but as said, it's overall a samey, kind of boring album. A pleasant surprise in that it wasn't a huge, bombastic disaster and brought back a lot of pre-AI Green Day charm, but an underwhemling effort all the same.
I'd rank them best to worst: Rusty James, Stay the Night, Nuclear Family, Sweet 16, Carpe Diem, Let Yourself Go, Oh Love, Troublemaker, Angel Blue, Fell For You, Loss of Control, Kill the DJ.
I thought half the album was boring. As a green Day fan since childhood, I love Green Day going back to their 90s roots, but stuffing the album with songs that sound the same just isn't the way you throwback yourselves. Although most of the guitar solos are pretty awesome.
