That was actually a lot better than I thought Metallica could do at this point. That said, it's falling just a bit short of me liking it. The instrumentation is definitely great, but, it lacks any kind of interesting melody and chorus to bring the song together. It does have me somewhat interested in the album though.
I thought this was a great return to form! Even though I'm not the biggest fan of the lyrics (James could do better)
I've only listened to it twice so I'm sure it'll grow on me a lot, but it's a bit too raw and thrashy for my liking. Really getting some Kill 'Em All vibes with the heavy aggression and speed, single riff and short run time. On the other hand, I felt that some of the songs on Death Magnetic were just a bit too long and meandering for their own good, so a short, intense single is actually pretty cool. I just wish the song threw a few more curveballs, once the song sets the pace during the first 20 seconds, it never lets up at all until the end, which doesn't make for the most exciting music IMO. Still though, being so short the song 100% gets away with it, so we'll just have to wait for the rest of the album to see how it fits in. It's just not a song I'd see myself listening to for it's own sake very often. There's just not much that draws me to the song other than the fact that it's by Metallica. Oh, and I usually don't care about lyrics in the slightest, but I actually cringed when I heard that chorus. And that's rare for me.
Agreed. I really dig Hardwired, and now Moth sounds pretty fucking killer. Awesome guitar harmonies & riffs, Het's vocals are on point/good lyrics. Solid solo. Sounds really fresh, too, I can't really point out another song they've done that sounds like it. Production-wise it's solid, & sounds like what Death Magnetic wanted to be.
That was actually really great, ESPECIALLY the solo. A lot better than Hardwired. This album is shaping up to possibly be their best since The Black Album. That isn't saying much though.
Really loving the new song a hell of a lot more than the title track. I've had it on repeat since it came out, it's seriously just a great all-round Metallica song. Don't you fucking dare diss my bae Load
This sounds brilliant. Now I'm anxiously awaiting the full album to drop. All three songs released so far sounded awesome. Heavy and groovy.
All three songs released so far have been killer. Haven't been this excited for a new Metallica album for a while! I just hope the rest of the album isn't trash
Listened to it in its entirety since its leaked (don't worry, I'll buy in stores when it comes out) and it's absolutely a masterpiece.
Before I have the chance to listen to their new album ,I actually gave st.anger a chance and most of the songs grew on me especially shoot me down and now I like all metallica albums including garage.inc as well . As for the new album I like all 3 songs so far especially moth into flame (that hook) . I'm such a metallica fanboy tbh and I'm not ashamed to say that as opposed to linkin park haha.
So I've heard the album once through and it was enough for me to buy it. It's really good, awesome to see and hear. I must nod the band for the way they've sold this record, too. The way it should be, IMO. I bought the 3-disc set at Best Buy, it was $10 (the 2-disc set was $10 as well). Double album sold in a fold out digipak with a bonus disc containing 14 bonus tracks (albeit most of them are live), for $10? Almost 2 hours of Metallica for $10, and the artwork is original awesome. This is just cool, more bands should take note. Oh, and all the music videos they've released go back to form. Metallica has raised the bar with how they've treated their fans after being away for 8 years. Props.
